From one pie to a growing movement

Men’s Pie Club started in Byker, Newcastle (UK) in 2017 with a simple idea: get local guys together to make pies and have a laugh. It wasn’t about therapy or fixing anything - just creating a relaxed, male-friendly space where men could connect over good food and good company.

The idea was……From there we consulted with a group of men to develop the idea before getting some funding and development support from Movember to pilot the idea.

At the time, we knew there was a need for something different. Too many men were feeling disconnected or stuck, and traditional services weren’t always the right fit. We believed food could be the start of something powerful—and it was.

Nearly 8 years on and over 10,000 pies made and baked MPC has consistently received positive media coverage and support from individuals and organisations. This ongoing support has been crucial to our development.

Fast forward to today, and Men’s Pie Club has grown into a network of volunteer- and member-led weekly clubs, creating space for men of all ages and backgrounds to meet, share skills, and enjoy the kind of laid-back camaraderie that builds confidence, community, and purpose.

MPC isn’t a service for men - it’s a club run by them. From the beginning, we’ve worked in partnership with members, volunteers, and local organisations to shape how clubs run, what’s on offer, and where we go next.

  • 75% of our leaders were once members
  • Over 100 members have helped shape programme design through co-design sessions
  • Every club is different—but the pies are always excellent

We’re proud that MPC is now embedded in social prescribing networks, recognised as a trusted, preventative initiative that’s helping to improve men’s wellbeing—one pie at a time.
